What Happened

On the night of 27 April 2026, Russian attack drones carried out a large-scale strike on Odesa. In the city's Prymorskyi district, a hotel near Langeron, residential buildings and nearby parked vehicles were damaged. Municipal information cited by Suspilne indicated that 13 residential buildings, a hotel and vehicles were affected in the district.

The Odesa Regional Military Administration reported local fires at the incident sites. However, open sources do not provide the exact boundaries of each fire, the burned area directly associated with the hotel and residential building, or the duration of burning.

Preliminary Environmental Assessment

Analysis

The assessment uses an estimated hotel and residential property area of 2,000–8,000 m² and a scenario-based burned area of 200–1,200 m². As no official fire duration was published, coefficients for an unknown duration or burning lasting up to 12 hours were applied. The lower bound represents the minimum fire scenario, while the upper bound reflects an expanded scenario within the same affected location.

Materials that may have burned include wood, furniture, textiles, polymer-based interior finishes, cable insulation, household appliances, vehicle fuel and lubricants. Potential emissions include CO₂, smoke, soot, ash, fine particulate matter and products of incomplete combustion.

🏗️ Waste & Contamination Note: Damage to the hotel, residential buildings and vehicles may have generated mixed waste, including fragments of glass, concrete, brick, metal, insulation, plastics and damaged equipment. Possible releases of fuel, lubricants, refrigerants and household chemicals could create additional risks to soil and surface runoff. This is a scenario-based inventory and does not replace laboratory analysis of air, soil, water or generated waste.

The tree estimate relates exclusively to conditional compensation for CO₂ emissions, assuming planting and maintenance for at least 10 years. Trees do not neutralise soot, dust, heavy metals, plastics, refrigerants, hazardous waste, or contamination of soil and water.

Methodology: The assessment is based on open-source information and Ukraine's Ministry of Environmental Protection Methodology No. 175 of 13 April 2022, registered by the Ministry of Justice of Ukraine on 16 April 2022 under No. 433/37769. The range reflects minimum and maximum scenarios for the affected area.
